Voices of GIST: Luca Lutz, a former student

When asked if I think I'm grown up, I ask, what is ‘grown up’? To me grown up means to no longer involve yourself in petty drama or unimportant things, and to learn to treat all people with empathy and respect, but not to your own detriment. While others, like my brother, think I meet this description, I think no one can be classified as grown up. People are changing every day, we constantly look back on our past selves and think, ‘Why did I say that thing?’, or ‘That was so embarrassing!’ meaning we are constantly changing. Grown up to me acts like an end point of change, which I don’t believe exists. Instead of grown up I would describe myself as mature, which leaves room for change.
