  • For the 2025/2026 school year, we are seeking a part-time (20 hours per week) Visual Arts and IB experienced Theory of Knowledge (TOK) teacher to work in the secondary school, covering grades 5 through 12. 

    Our ideal candidate has expertise and qualifications in both of these subjects. However, we will also accept and review applicants with experience and qualifications in either Visual Arts or TOK. 

    Requirements:  

    • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), and a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts or related field or equivalent documented experience. 

    • Your degree should include a strong emphasis on studio art, art history and related areas. 

    • You are an experienced IB educator, particularly with experience teaching TOK. 

    • You should demonstrate proficiency in visual arts and have a strong background in visual art education. 

    • Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) Certificate. Other teaching licenses accepted. 

    • A minimum of 1-2 years of classroom teaching experience; experience at a private school is an asset. 

    • You should have excellent written and spoken English skills. It is of advantage if you are proficient in German. 

    • You work in a team-oriented manner, but you are equally capable of driving processes forward independently and representing the GIST in a professional manner. 

    • We expect a high level of subject expertise, a modern and diverse pedagogical skill set, and experience in differentiation and individualized teaching. 

    • You have experience with current school-appropriate digital media and can support the school’s media curriculum development.  

    • You have strong classroom management skills. 

    • Excellent oral, written, communication, facilitation, and presentation skills. Your communication is transparent and characterized by mutual respect. 

    • You hold a valid work visa for Canada. 

    • You bring enthusiasm to our team and demonstrate exceptional motivation, flexibility, and dedication.

  • We offer unpaid internships in our elementary and secondary grades as well as in kindergarten. Internships ideally last five months, including holidays and school breaks. We kindly ask you to refrain from applying for internships lasting shorter than three months. 

    Internships in our elementary and secondary school programs are limited to students who are enrolled at a university in a teacher education program at the time of the internship.

    Please note the current status of the intern placement for the 2025/2026 school year:

    • Kindergarten: We no longer have any available spots for the 2025/2026 school year.

    • Elementary School: We no longer have any available spots for the 2025/2026 school year.

    • Secondary School: All spots for the first term of the 2025/2026 school year are filled. However, we are still accepting applications for the second term. Please note, we are unable to accommodate interns in the subjects English or German for this term.

    • Administration: We are still accepting applications for the 2025/2026 school year.

    Applications for the 2026/2027 school year will be reviewed starting in September 2025, but you are welcome to submit your application in advance.

    School Year and Breaks
    Our school year runs from September to June. The first term begins on the first weekday of September (the day after Labour Day) and lasts until the end of January. The second term runs from February to the last weekday of June. We have one week of fall break, two weeks of Christmas break, and two weeks of March break. We do not offer any internships during our summer break. 

    Office Internships
    We offer unpaid office internships in the departments of office administration, finances, and marketing. These internships have a minimum length of six months. 

    Expectations
    Interns are expected to be present during school hours (Mon-Fri, 7:45 am - 1:15 pm) with a minimum of 20 school periods per week.     Benefits
    Interns will gain hands-on experience in a small school with small class sizes and a close-knit welcoming community. This setting allows for meaningful interactions and close bonds with students and staff. Interns will work closely with experienced educators, receive one-on-one mentorship, and build professional networks.
