Help us build a climbing structure for our kindergarten and give our children a place to climb, play and reach high!

Our kids want to go higher.

Why we climb

Since GIST moved into its home at 25 Burnhamthorpe Road, our kindergarten play area has been waiting for its next big step. Engaged parents have already done wonderful work, even building a sandbox by hand. But every day we watch our children try to climb whatever they can find. That's no accident: climbing is how young children build strength, balance, coordination and confidence. Right now, our play area has nothing made for it. With your help, we can change that.

Scher Sankar, Head of Kindergarten and
Aaron Bardens, Kindergarten Teacher

“Both How Learning Happens in Ontario and the Thuringian guidelines for early childhood education recognize climbing as an essential part of children's development. An age-appropriate climbing structure would let us support all learners even better and turn our play area into a place that truly challenges them.”

Heidi, Junior Kindergarten

“I want to climb higher!”

Three milesontes. One big climb.

Goal 1

$15,000

Small climbing structure

With $15,000, we could install a spider net and rope climber that builds coordination, spatial awareness and strength while encouraging children to play and climb together. Its spacious design lets many children climb or take a break at the same time, helping them build important social-emotional skills along the way.

Goal 2

$35,000

With $35,000, we could purchase a six-sided climbing structure with climbing nets, a vertical climbing wall, a fireman's pole and banister bars, offering many ways to climb, crawl and slide that keep children coming back. This structure builds proprioception, balance, coordination and spatial awareness, skills that support concentration and judging distances, while the spacious top net gives children an active meeting point to gather. We could also possibly add a slide for even more play options.

Goal 3 - The dream!

$50,000

A complete playground with multiple play options

With $50,000, we could install both the Climbing Net and the six-sided climbing structure, and possibly add another item, to create a complete, diverse and adventurous playground for our kindergarten students. Together, they would give children many ways to climb, crawl, slide and play, building coordination, spatial awareness, strength and social-emotional skills while encouraging them to play together and keep coming back.
